Sean Sharaf, fresh off a surprising 12-second knockout victory over Gable Steveson at UFC 331, expressed a surprisingly optimistic view of Steveson's potential. Sharaf, who himself was facing pressure with an 0-2 UFC record entering the bout, defeated the decorated Olympic gold medalist with a decisive left hook.
During the post-fight media scrum, Sharaf shared his perspective, drawing parallels to his own past experiences. "I remember I was thinking about this before the fight: I was 4-0, I was undefeated when I had my first loss in the UFC, and he just had his first loss," Sharaf stated. "It makes you better. You’re going to take a look back, and you can’t underestimate people. You can’t think you’re untouchable and you’re going to just run through people. I think he’s going to go back. He’s going to get better. He’s got a hell of a lot of talent, so I’m sure you guys will see him again."
The win marked the biggest of Sharaf's professional mixed martial arts career, coming after consecutive finishing losses to Junior Tafa and Steven Asplund. For Steveson, the 12-second KO represents his first career knockout defeat after a previously undefeated 4-0 run.
