Jon Jones Takes Responsibility for Gable Steveson's Quick UFC Exit

Steveson’s quick defeat surprised many. His actions afterward were equally perplexing: instead of staying to acknowledge Sharaf's victory, Steveson left the Octagon immediately with Jon Jones and his team. Daniel Cormier, a former rival of Jones, criticized Steveson for this departure.
Now, Jones states that the decision to leave was his, not Steveson’s.

Jones addressed the situation on Twitter, defending Steveson’s departure.
"I’ve seen some reports online, and I really wanted to clear the air. It was my decision to take Gable straight to the back after the fight," Jones said about Steveson. "Honestly, it was the first time in this situation for me, and my instant reaction was to get my friend to the back to make sure he was ok. Gable’s work ethic and will to win is there, and I stand by him and believe he will go on to be one of the best heavyweights in the UFC. He will be back; I’m sure of it.”
Steveson previously won his UFC debut against Elisha Ellison at UFC 329. He was considered a top heavyweight prospect after bypassing a potential fight on *Dana White’s Contender Series*.
Jones will continue to support Steveson as he recovers from the defeat and prepares for his return to the octagon.
